Wrestler Tomokaze talks about never giving up

The Kawasaki Nursing Association was founded on April 1, 1996, and marks its 30th anniversary this year. To thank its members, partners and residents, it is holding an anniversary talk, with the support of Kawasaki City.

The speaker is Tomokaze of the Nakamura stable of the Japan Sumo Association. His talk is titled "A heart that never gives up: what supported my comeback from a serious injury," and runs for 90 minutes.

Tomokaze is from Kawasaki Ward. He went to Miyamae Elementary School and Fujimi Junior High School (both city schools) and Mukainooka High School (a prefectural school), and graduated from Nippon Sport Science University. He reached the top division just 11 tournaments after his debut. In the November 2019 tournament he fell off the ring and suffered an injury that nearly cost him his right leg. After four operations and tough rehabilitation, he returned to the ring in the March 2021 tournament, started again from the lower jonidan division, and was back in the top division in the November 2023 tournament.

On the day, the talk follows a greeting from Kawasaki Nursing Association President Hotta and speeches by guests including Deputy Mayor Mitamura.
