Applicants wanted for Midorigaoka and Hayano cemeteries
Kawasaki City is looking for people to use graves at its city-run cemeteries. It announced this on Oct 13, 2026.
The two cemeteries are Midorigaoka Cemetery (緑ヶ丘霊園) in Takatsu Ward and Hayano Seichi Koen (早野聖地公園) in Asao Ward. Five types are offered: standard plots, wall-type plots, lawn-type plots, shared individual plots and shared graves. The 1㎡ standard plots at Midorigaoka are newly built; all others are plots that were returned.
Apply by post during November
Applications are accepted from Sunday, Nov 1 to Monday, Nov 30, 2026, by mail only (postmarked by Nov 30).
The form is included in the application guide. From Friday, Oct 23, it is handed out at ward offices, branch offices, administrative service corners, the cemetery office, the Hayano Seichi Koen office and other places.
If there are more applicants than places, a public lottery will be held from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan 12, 2027, at the Kawasaki City Life and Culture Hall (Techno Kawasaki, てくのかわさき) in Takatsu Ward. Results will be mailed to all applicants from Tuesday, Jan 19.
445 plots, including standard graves
There are 445 standard plots and others in total (management fees are yearly).
| Cemetery | Type | Usage fee | Management fee (per year) | Places |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Midorigaoka | Standard, 1㎡ | ¥250,000 | ¥710 | 220 |
| Midorigaoka | Standard, 4㎡ | ¥1,000,000 | ¥2,840 | 80 |
| Midorigaoka | Standard, 6㎡ | ¥1,500,000 | ¥4,260 | 60 |
| Midorigaoka | Standard, 8㎡ | ¥2,000,000 | ¥5,680 | 5 |
| Hayano Seichi Koen | Standard, 4㎡ | ¥660,000 | ¥2,840 | 40 |
| Hayano Seichi Koen | Wall-type | ¥1,403,000 | ¥7,330 | 10 |

| Hayano Seichi Koen | Shared individual | ¥717,000 | ¥4,170 | 20 |
The shared graves (at Midorigaoka) have space for 520 people in total. You pay the management fee once when you apply, and the city takes care of the grave from then on. The city says this suits people with no one to take over a family grave. However, remains cannot be taken out once placed.
| Type of application | Usage fee | Management fee (permanent) | Places |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remains, 1 person | ¥70,000 | ¥30,550 | 80 |
| Remains, 2 people | ¥140,000 | ¥61,100 | 80 (40 pairs) |
| Remains of 1 + 1 living person | ¥140,000 | ¥61,100 | 160 (80 pairs) |
| 1 living person | ¥70,000 | ¥30,550 | 70 |
| 2 living people | ¥140,000 | ¥61,100 | 130 (65 pairs) |
For people living outside the city (such as those keeping remains at the Midorigaoka Reido ossuary), the usage fee is 1.5 times higher.
