The 2028 coming-of-age ceremony moves to four venues
Kawasaki City will hold its "Celebration for Turning 20" (二十歳を祝うつどい) on Monday, Jan 10, 2028, Coming of Age Day, split across four venues in the city. It announced this on Oct 16, 2026.
Until now, the ceremony has been held at a single venue so that people of the same age could gather together. Because redevelopment work is under way at Todoroki Ryokuchi Park, holding it in the same way is difficult, so the city will use several venues with the help of two music universities in the city.
Saiwai: Todoroki Arena, morning session
| Time (planned) | Ward you live in | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| Morning, 10:30–12:00 | Kawasaki | Culttz Kawasaki (hall) |
| Morning, 10:30–12:00 | Saiwai, Nakahara | Tokyu Dresser Todoroki Arena (main arena) |
| Morning, 10:30–12:00 | Takatsu | Senzoku Gakuen College of Music (Maeda Hall) |
| Morning, 10:30–12:00 | Asao | Showa University of Music (Teatro Giglio Showa) |
| Afternoon, 13:30–15:00 | Miyamae | Senzoku Gakuen College of Music (Maeda Hall) |
| Afternoon, 13:30–15:00 | Tama | Showa University of Music (Teatro Giglio Showa) |
The basic rule is to attend the venue and session for your ward, but if that does not suit you, you can attend another. The ceremony goes ahead in rain and may be canceled in stormy weather.
Born Apr 2, 2007 to Apr 1, 2008
People registered as residents of Kawasaki (and others) who were born between Apr 2, 2007 and Apr 1, 2008.
For reference, at the January 2026 ceremony, 685 of the 1,390 eligible people in Saiwai Ward attended (49.3%).
Invitations around December 2027
No. Details will be sent to eligible people in an invitation around December 2027 and posted on the city’s official website. The city will announce the program and the call for supporters once decided.
The previous ceremony, in January 2027, will be held at Todoroki Athletics Stadium (Uvance Todoroki Stadium by Fujitsu).
