Join a public nursery class with your child

Public nurseries in Saiwai Ward run "exchange childcare" (交流保育). A parent and child join a class of children the same age and take part in play and daily life at the nursery together.

While playing, you can also talk with childcare workers, nurses and nutritionists about parenting worries and questions. Visits are on weekdays from 9:00 to about 11:30 a.m. The end time depends on the activity and the child's age.

There are three ways to take part.

1 No meal Play, end before lunch. Apply any time 2 Packed lunch Bring a light lunch and eat together 3 Lunch with Your Child Twice a month, 2 pairs (lottery), ¥500 Apply from 9 a.m. on the 1st, month before

Types 1 and 2 can be booked at any time. After you apply, the nursery contacts you to set a date.

With type 3, Lunch with Your Child, you play in a class of the same age and then eat the nursery's school lunch together. It runs on set days for up to 2 families per nursery, with a lottery if there are many applicants. First-time participants get priority. It costs ¥250 per person (¥500 per parent-child pair), paid on the day. Food allergies cannot be accommodated, so check the menu and choose a day your child can eat. Each nursery's menu is posted on the city's page (currently for October and November).
