Oct 25: a mikoshi passes Yako Station
Around midday on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, a golden mikoshi and bearers in white happi coats were moving through the crossing in front of Yako Station on the JR Nambu Line. The coats had "矢向" (Yako) on the back. It appears to be the mikoshi of the annual festival of Yako Hie Shrine, held every year on the fourth Saturday and Sunday of October.

Yako Hie Shrine's grand festival, over 350 years old
Yako Hie Shrine, in Yako, Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama, is said to have been founded in 1638. Its annual festival is reported to have continued for more than 350 years.
The usual schedule (based on reporting on the 2024 festival):
- Day 1 (Saturday): Children's mikoshi from each neighborhood association gather at the shrine, receive a blessing and then tour the streets. In the evening, the "Hoyukai" mikoshi preservation group carries an illuminated mikoshi.
- Day 2 (Sunday): After a ceremony, the main shrine mikoshi tours each neighborhood of Yako.
In 2025, the main mikoshi left the shrine at 8:30 a.m. on day two and returned at 6 p.m. We could not find the 2026 times.
To the shrine from Yako or Shitte Station
Yako Hie Shrine is at 4-16-8 Yako, Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama. The nearest stations are Yako and Shitte on the JR Nambu Line.
The mikoshi moves through the streets, so make way for it and watch the direction the bearers are heading.
