Key points 30-second read

  1. Hakata Ippudo Cross Garden Kawasaki is a ramen shop on the 1st floor of the Cross Garden Kawasaki shopping center in Ogura, Saiwai Ward. It is open every day from 11:00 to 21:30 and has parking.
  2. We ordered "Tamago Akamaru," the signature "Akamaru Shinaji" topped with a seasoned egg. It is a rich bowl with fragrant oil and special spicy miso melting into the tonkotsu (pork bone) soup.
  3. We also had bite-size gyoza and a draft beer. Snacking on the spicy bean sprouts on the table, we ordered an extra serving of noodles "barikata" (extra firm).

Cross Garden Kawasaki 1F, with parking

Hakata Ippudo Cross Garden Kawasaki is a ramen shop on the 1st floor of the Cross Garden Kawasaki shopping center in Ogura, Saiwai Ward.

The shop entrance with wooden slats, an orange-and-white

  • It is open 11:00–21:30, the same every day (last order 30 minutes before closing).
  • There is parking, and there are a kids' menu and children's chairs.
  • Besides cash, you can pay by credit card, transit IC card, QR code payment and e-money.

When we suddenly craved real tonkotsu ramen, this is where we headed. It is easy to drop in while shopping and works well for families too.

Bite-size gyoza and Tamago Akamaru

Bite-size gyoza with browned bottoms on a black plate, a mug of draft beer and a small dish of spicy bean sprouts

First, a toast with "Hakata bite-size gyoza" and a draft beer. The small gyoza with crisp, fragrant browned bottoms go perfectly with an ice-cold beer. On the table there are all-you-can-eat spicy bean sprouts and fresh garlic to squeeze in yourself with a garlic press. A beer with spicy sprouts before the ramen is a small luxury.

Akamaru ramen in a red bowl: tonkotsu soup topped with dark fragrant oil, red spicy miso, wood ear mushrooms and green onions, with a ramen spoon

For ramen, we chose "Tamago Akamaru," Ippudo's signature "Akamaru Shinaji" topped with a seasoned egg. Fragrant oil and special spicy miso melt into the shop's proud tonkotsu soup for a deep, rich flavor. Squeezing in some fresh garlic gave it a real kick. The thin, Hakata-style noodles cling well to the soup.

A seasoned egg cut in half on a spoon, with a soft orange yolk

We recommend dissolving the spicy miso little by little as you go to enjoy the change in flavor. The seasoned egg was soft-boiled with a runny yolk.

Of course, we also ordered an extra serving of noodles (kaedama). We asked for them "barikata" (extra firm) and enjoyed the soup to the last drop. The prices may feel a little high for a chain, but with the reliably good soup and all-you-can-eat spicy sprouts, it is very satisfying.
